[autotag]Maddie Penta[/autotag] has been dominant this season. The junior pitcher from Chesapeake City, Maryland boasts a 17-5 record with a 0.90 ERA, 132.1 innings pitched, and 205 strikeouts to 25 walks.
Penta was recognized by D1Softball as being tied for 10th place in the week nine pitcher power rankings. This is another bullet on the extensive resume Penta has built not only this season but through her career as a whole.
Penta pitched 21 innings throughout the week and only allowed three runs off of nine hits, walking seven batters and striking out 30 and earned wins in two out of three appearances. She also hit a milestone in Saturday’s series finale at Florida by striking out 10 batters in the Tigers’ 7-0 win over Florida. The game marked the 19th time in her career that she has fanned at least 10 batters in a game.
Penta is currently on pace to set two personal records this season. She currently sits at 205 strikeouts on the season in 132.1 innings of work, which is 64 strikeouts away from tying her single-season record set last season. Penta currently sits at 10th place in single-season strikeouts at Auburn and has 15 more chances to increase that total before postseason play begins.
In addition to being on pace to earn a career-high in strikeouts, she is also working towards a career low in ERA, as she currently holds a 0.90 ERA in 27 appearances. Her current record is 1.76, which was again set in 2022.
The Auburn Tigers (29-12, 7-5 SEC) will be back in action on Wednesday night when the Troy Trojans (22-11) travel over to Jane B. Moore Field to complete the home-and-home series. Auburn will also take on the LSU Tigers (33-7, 6-6 SEC) at home this weekend.
