As Mack Brown’s second stint with the North Carolina Tar Heels enters its sixth year, the program is looking to finally get over that hunch. They have started off well before faltering down the stretch.
That includes last season where the Tar Heels started 6-0 and were ranked No. 10 in the nation before losing 4 of their last 6 games including the bowl game against West Virginia. UNC just couldn’t finish with losses to Clemson and NC State to close out the regular season. But as they enter another season under Brown, the head coach isn’t holding back on former ACC coaches.
During a session with the media on Thursday, Brown brought up recruiting strategies from other coaches in the conference. And the pitch? Saying that Brown is going to quit soon.
Here’s his response via Travon Miles of ABC 11:
Mack Brown absolutely cooking:
“Every coach recruiting against us says I’m going to quit. And six of them have been fired that said that already. So they ought to be worried about themselves.”

Brown will be 73 years old in August and it’s easy for those outside of the program to use his age as an excuse. But it doesn’t look like Brown is slowing down anytime soon and still has a passion for this.
I wouldn’t say Brown’s hot seat is warm yet either unless the Tar Heels put together a disastrous year. Let’s see if they can bounce back and finally finish a season strong.
