It’s officially game week for the North Carolina Tar Heels as they are getting set to face off against South Carolina in Charlotte to open up the 2023 season. With kickoff less than five days away, Mack Brown met the media to discuss the opponent and the latest on his team.
Among the topics discussed was the situation regarding Devontez Walker and his eligibility for the upcoming season. It was just a few weeks ago that the NCAA ruled him ineligible and the Tar Heels appealed it. Brown says the Tar Heels are still waiting but are hoping to hear something soon:

"We haven't heard anything. We're still waiting. There's a little bit more of the process that needs to be done. Hopefully we'll hear something in the next couple of days and we can finalize the process and he'll be eligible to play."

The process is taking some time as the Tar Heels are still hoping that Walker will be cleared in time for Saturday’s game. He is allowed to travel with the team and can wear his jersey, as UNC plans on having his equipment just in case.
Tez can travel and wear a jersey on the sideline. They will take his equipment and uniform in case he can play.

If the Tar Heels can get him cleared, it would be huge for the offense and quarterback Drake Maye.
