Mack Brown discusses Dave Doeren’s harsh words for UNC football program

UNC football head coach Mack Brown commented on NC State head coach Dave Doeren’s strong comments in the regular season finale.

North Carolina’s 2023 regular season ended in disappointing fashion. After a 6-0 start, UNC finished the year 8-4 overall including back-to-back losses to Clemson and NC State.

It was the third-straight game North Carolina lost to NC State and this year, it really wasn’t even a game. The Tar Heels were the favorites going into that matchup and from the start the Wolfpack dominated.

Following the game, NC State celebrated the rivalry win which included head coach Dave Doeren calling UNC players ‘pieces of s***’ in the locker room as the video went viral. On Wednesday, UNC head coach Mack Brown addressed that video during a press conference and wasn’t happy.

Here is what he said via ESPN:

“In our last ball game with a rival school, after the game the head coach of that school called our players a piece of s*** and I apologize for that language,” Brown said. “But I’ve never heard something like that before. I’m disappointed, I thought it was classless. It’s not true. No. 1, we didn’t play well in the game and didn’t coach well, I’ve got that, but you don’t call kids a piece of s***.”

Brown went on to say that he did apologize to his team for the comments.

“I’ve addressed it with our team, I’ve apologized to them. These kids are one of the top academic groups in America, they just got an award for it,” Brown said. “They’ve won Coastal, went to an Orange Bowl, been to five straight bowls, represent us well. From me speaking for them and their parents, they didn’t appreciate being called. Very, very disappointing.”

Brown does have a point. But this shouldn’t be shocking as Doeren has muttered things against UNC in the past.

However, if Brown wants to stop it then there’s one way. Win ball games against the Wolfpack.
