Emotions were clearly high in North Carolina’s locker room after the Tar Heels were blown out by JMU 70-50 in Chapel Hill. It was the most points UNC has given up, tying the mark set by ECU in 2014.
Following the game, a report from Inside Carolina surfaced that head coach Mack Brown was emotional and told his team he was stepping down. The report also sourced someone close to the program hours later stating that Brown has no plans to resign or quit his coaching position.
Now, ESPN’s Chris Low is reporting that Brown spoke to the network and cleared the air by saying he “will be back at work” Sunday after that embarrassing loss on Saturday.
Low went on to confirm that it was an emotional locker room and that he told the team he would step away if he couldn’t get things straightened out with the program. It’s clear that Brown was taking the loss hard and may have jumped the gun on leaving the program.

Still, there is a little confusion around the program and the future of Brown it seems like.
This loss was another tough one for Brown and his Tar Heels as it marked the eighth time they have lost as a double-digit favorite since 2019. It was also the fourth time they had lost by double digits as a double-digit favorite in the second Brown era. That’s not good.
With UNC getting set to face Duke to open up ACC play next week, they could be seeking some clarity on this situation. But one thing is certain, this could spiral out of control if the losses mount for this program.
