Florida quarterback Kyle Trask leads the FBS with 38 touchdown passes. The next closest passer, UCF’s Dillon Gabriel, has 30.
For the last few weeks, the Heisman Trophy has felt like Trask’s to lose. And he hasn’t slowed down, as he tossed for more than 400 yards and four touchdowns once again on Saturday against Tennessee.
One would think his Heisman campaign would be in tip-top shape.
But in this week’s Heisman watch from ESPN, Trask is no longer the lone leader in the race. He’s fallen into a tie with Alabama quarterback Mac Jones, who is the next closes Power Five passer in terms of touchdowns with 27.
But Jones has also only thrown three interceptions this season, and he leads the Power Five in passer rating at 210.8.
He’s just over 100 yards behind Trask in terms of total passing yards this season, and his lack of touchdowns compared to Trask can likely be explained by the production of running back Najee Harris, who leads the nation with 20 rushing touchdowns.
Here’s what ESPN had to say about each SEC passer.
