At one point, most people thought Mac Jones was going to the San Francisco 49ers at No. 3 overall. Instead, the 49ers took Trey Lance and the former Alabama quarterback fell to the New England Patriots at No. 15.
From reports, the Patriots couldn’t be happier with landing Jones in the middle of the first round in April. In fact, he’s reportedly “blown away” coaches and teammates with his leadership, knowledge, decision-making, film study and accuracy.
Or at least that is what Justin Ramos with uSTADIUM is hearing from sources.

If those reports are true, then it will not surprise many — if any — Alabama fans. Jones is a guy who exceeds expectations.
After arriving as the “second quarterback” in the 2017 class along with Tua Tagovailoa, Jones steadily improved his play over the course of 2 1/2 seasons before getting his first opportunity in 2019. From there, he excelled.
He was a more than adequate replacement for an injured Tagovailoa, and he held firmly onto the starting job when most were predicting freshman phenom Bryce Young would take it from him.
Now he’s attempting to carry that ability to improve and adapt to the NFL level. So far, so good — or at least it seems that way.
