Luka Modric showed no mercy to Mohamed Salah after Real Madrid beat Liverpool in the Champions League final.
Madrid defeated Liverpool 1-0 in Paris last month, securing a second Champions League final triumph over the Reds in the span of four years.
Salah was not shy ahead of the game in speaking about his desire to avenge Liverpool’s 2018 defeat to Madrid in the final, and apparently Madrid’s players were paying close attention to the Egyptian star’s comments.
“I have a funny anecdote,” Real Madrid forward Rodrygo told Cortes Podcast.
“Once the final was over, we [Madrid players] lined up and Liverpool [players] went by. A depleted Salah passed by.
“Modric was in front of me, he greeted him [Salah] and told him “OK, OK, you try again next time.”
Ouch.
Salah wanted Madrid in the final
After Liverpool reached the Champions League final, Salah admitted that he was hoping to see Madrid beat Manchester City in their semifinal.
“I think personally, I would prefer Madrid. We lost in the final to them so I want to play against them and hopefully win it,” Salah said.
Rodrygo added that he and his teammates even invoked Salah’s name during training leading up to the match.
“When a guy provokes, sometimes you just want to win so you can make fun of them,” Rodrygo added.
“In training we used to say ‘come Salah, come Salah’… in our head it was already ‘we have to win to then make fun of Salah’.”
