Nikola Jokic’s weight loss journey during the NBA’s coronavirus-induced hiatus is pretty incredible. He went from being the NBA’s most lovable, chunky superstar to being, well, basically Kristaps Porzingis’ twin.
Jokic’s transformation has been cool to see on one hand. But on the other, he’s completely leaving behind what made him a cult hero in NBA Twitter circles everywhere.
Nah, it wasn’t he flashy passes. It wasn’t the big rebounds. It wasn’t the smooth buckets. It’s that he was doing all that while sporting the thickest of dad bods.
He was a bucket and he was also extremely out of shape — something most folks can relate to. Well, uh, the extremely out of shape part at least.
But fret not. Though Jokic has moved on to greener, more fit pastures, there is an heir apparent to the cape.
Enter Luka Doncic.
Doncic’s trainer said the Mavericks star has fallen out of shape during the NBA’s hiatus in an interview with RIA Novotsi in Slovenia. The interview was translated by Eurohoops.net.
“He is not in the best shape, which is normal. NBA games will not be played before the end of July, so there is enough time to help him recover and get ready,” he added, “However, he undoubtedly would be ready to play right now.”
Good. Gooooood. It’s happening.
Through a healthy diet of pizza and junk food along with a strict training regimen of 10 hours of Fortnite daily, Doncic has swiftly taken over the mantle as the league’s new pudgy hero.
Don’t worry, Mavs fans. Doncic will be ready once the playoffs — or whatever the heck they are — begin. A little bit of pudge never stopped anyone from getting buckets.
Just ask Nikola Jokic.
