LT Geron Christian admits he didn’t prepare hard enough in early NFL years

Christian said on Tuesday that he never expected to play behind Trent Williams and Morgan Moses, so he didn’t prepare as he should have.

For a couple of years now, fans in Washington have been looking at LT Geron Christian and hoping that he would take a step forward and become the player that the team drafted him to be.

Thus far, it’s been a disappointment, with Christian at times showing flashes of proficiency, but lacking consistency. Because of this, he’s yet to earn a solid role on the offensive line, but now with no veterans ahead of him in the depth chart, there are zero excuses as to why he can’t be the starting LT for Washington. He has the talent, but he just has to work for it.

When talking to the media after practice on Tuesday, Christian admitted as much, saying that he wasn’t prepared enough in the past to be who Washington wanted him to be. It was a mindset issue that held him back.

That’s a tough thing to admit for a young player, coming to terms with the fact that you were holding yourself back from being the player you can be. However, it’s great to hear now that Christian is taking things more seriously, and working to be the best player possible. While there is nobody currently ahead of him on the depth chart, he will have to compete with rookie LT Saahdiq Charles — who Washington drafted in the fourth round — for the starting spot for years to come. Maybe that competition will drive him forward; we can only hope.
