The LSU Tigers (1-2) are back in action this weekend as they prepare to host the South Carolina Gamecocks (2-2) in Baton Rouge.

The Tigers are looking to get back in the win column after a humiliating 45-41 loss to Missouri two weeks ago. LSU had a sudden bye week last when its game against Florida was postponed due to COVID-19.

The Gamecocks enter this weekend’s matchup with momentum on their side. After dropping its first two games, South Carolina has picked up consecutive wins over Vanderbilt and then-No. 15 Auburn.

These two teams haven’t met since 2015 when LSU defeated the Gamecocks 45-24. That was a memorable day for the Tigers as Derrius Guice rushed for 161 yards, while Leonard Fournette rushed for 158 yards. As a team, the Tigers rushed for 396 yards and four touchdowns.

LSU leads the all-time series with an overall record of (18-2-1), and has won the previous six meetings. The Gamecocks last beat the Tigers in 1994 when Carolina edged LSU 18-17 in Baton Rouge.

The two teams actually tied in 1995.

Meetings are rare between the two SEC rivals as LSU plays in the SEC West while South Carolina resides in the SEC East. South Carolina didn’t join the SEC until 1991.

Saturday will mark first time LSU coach Ed Orgeron has faced South Carolina as head coach.
