The 5-5 finish LSU had to the 2021 season was far from satisfactory, but the program has made moves this offseason within the coaching staff and has several players on roster that give reason for optimism.
One of these players is sophomore wide receiver Kayshon Boutte, who really began to come into his own last season.
In 2021, he has the chance to become one of the team’s most prominent players on offense. Last season, Boutte caught 45 passes for 735 yards — a team-high — with five touchdowns.
On that true freshman season, Boutte set an SEC record with 308 receiving yards in the final game of the season against Ole Miss in Tiger Stadium.

It will be interesting to see who is throwing passes to Boutte and the rest of the supporting cast, considering there is no set starting quarterback at LSU currently.
“We’re kind of getting used to how they throw the ball,” Boutte told reporters. “You’re not going with just one quarterback, you’re going with different quarterbacks all throughout practice. After practice it gives us something to work on.”
Under new offensive coordinator Jake Peetz, Boutte is expected to see an expanded role.
“I find myself in many different places. Coach Peetz came in and moved me around,” Boutte said. “Last year I played mainly X, just X. This year I’m different, X, Z, backfield, I do it different. I like that he came in and changed the style.”
