The College GameDay crew had their final live show of the 2021-22 college football season to preview the New Years Day bowl games. This was also their final opportunity to preview the Texas Bowl where the Bayou Bengals will take the field for the last time before the Brian Kelly era begins.
The crew made their picks for LSU-Kansas State, and only one man dared to take the purple and gold.
Desmond Howard alone on an island
The former Heisman Trophy winner during his time at Michigan went with the LSU Tigers for his pick. The expectations in this game are going to be different when the team takes the field against the Big 12’s Kansas State Wildcats. They don’t have their starters at quarterback or running back. Can the offense generate enough points to win the game? That is the real question.

Kirk Herbstreit and Lee Corso go with Kansas State
No surprises here as the duo opts to go with the Kansas State Wildcats. Most have them favored over LSU who will be without Damone Clark, Neil Farrell Jr, and Tyrion Davis-Price. Defensively they will be tasked with slowing down one of the top playmakers in the Big 12, Deuce Vaughn.
The game kicks off on Jan. 4 at 8:00 pm. CT at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas. It marks the Tigers’ first Texas Bowl game since they took on Texas Tech in 2015. Kansas State makes its third trip to the Texas Bowl. They lost to Rutgers in 2006 and defeated Texas A&M in 2016.
Neither team played in the postseason last year.
