LSU TE Arik Gilbert says he’s entering the transfer portal

Arik Gilbert won’t be returning to LSU in 2021.

LSU freshman tight end Arik Gilbert announced he had entered the transfer portal on Saturday.

“After careful consideration and collaboration with my family I’ve decided to enter the transfer portal,” he wrote. “I’d like to thank god for bestowing his blessings upon me.”

Gilbert has since deleted the tweet, and his name has not yet appeared in the portal.

The pass-catcher from Marietta, Georgia, opted out in December, during the same time period in which reports emerged that he was homesick and considering leaving the LSU football program.

Gilbert reeled in 35 receptions for 368 yards and two touchdowns over eight games this season.

It will be interesting to see where Gilbert ends up now, and there’s been no shortage of speculation as to where he’ll take the field next.

Tennessee Volunteers quarterback Harrison Bailey, a high school teammate of Gilbert’s, took to Twitter with his own idea to “run it back.”

Could there be a reunion?

Time will tell as this situation continues to develop.
