On Jan. 2 at the Under Armour All-American game, Jacoby Mathews is set to make his commitment. The LSU Tigers are hoping that the No. 3 player in the state of Louisiana will re-commit to the Purple and Gold. It appears to be a two-horse race with Texas A&M being the other. However, a new competitor is looking to step into the ring.
On3 Sports’ Corey Bender reports that Mathews is set to have an official visit with Florida and head coach Billy Napier. The Gators already signed one of the top safeties in the class with Kamari Wilson and now they could be looking for the best one in the state of Louisiana.

Given that Napier spent so much time in the state, it should come as a surprise to no one that he would use those connections to continue to recruit the Boot.
Jacoby Mathews, the No. 1 safety in the @On3Sports Consensus Rankings, tells me he scheduled an official visit with @Coach_BNapier and the #Gators.

LSU signed one safety with Jordan Allen of Lafayette Christian Academy during the early signing period, reuniting him with 2021 signee Sage Ryan. The two played together before Ryan joined the Tigers last season. Mathews would be a massive addition to a defense looking to improve their safety play as they head into 2022.
It appears that Brian Kelly will have plenty of competition for the former LSU pledge.
