The LSU Tigers held off the Ole Miss Rebels, 53-48, in a wild shootout on Saturday afternoon in Baton Rouge.

It’s the second straight win for the Tigers, who finished the regular season with a 5-5 record one year after winning the national championship.

The Tigers dominated much of the first half, picking off Ole Miss quarterback Matt Corral multiple times, going into halftime with a 34-21 lead.

However, the Rebels would fight back in the second half. Corral used his arm and his legs to will Ole Miss into the lead late in the game before LSU freshman quarterback Max Johnson led the Tigers on a game-winning drive where he found freshman receiver Kayshon Boutte for the decisive score.

Speaking of Boutte, the true freshman wideout caught 14 passes for 308 yards and three touchdowns. The 308 receiving yards is not only an LSU record but also an SEC record, too.

Johnson was terrific in his own right, completing 27 of 51 passes for 435 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception.

LSU’s offense finished with 593 total yards, while the defense picked off Corral five times.

It was a great finish to the season for LSU after struggling through October and November.
