The 2020 season has been one full of ups-and-downs for LSU football, but there has been no shortage of “Hold That Tiger!” tweets from head Ed Orgeron’s Twitter account in recent times.
Now on two weeks without a football game due to either a scheduled open date or an unexpected one due to COVID-19 concerns, many fans have turned their attention to what’s happening on the recruiting trail.
LSU football currently has 22 verbal commitments for the 2021 recruiting class, meaning there could be as little as just three open scholarships available before the Tigers hit the 25-man signing limit.
One position LSU has been trying to bulk up at is safety.

“We identified that we need some help at the safety position and we went out and took care of that,” Orgeron said on the radio Wednesday. “I am very proud of our coaches. But it doesn’t mean we will stop at that position.”
Some names the Tigers have recently added include the country’s No. 2 overall safety prospect in Derrick Davis Jr. and in-state prospects Matthew Langlois and Sage Ryan.
Prospects like the nation’s No. 1 overall player in defensive end Korey Foreman, the state’s No. 1 overall prospect Maason Smith, five-star offensive tackle Tristan Leigh and Louisiana top-ranked receiver Brian Thomas Jr. are also names to watch in recruiting.
The coronavirus pandemic has gotten in the way of a lot of sports happenings, but it doesn’t seem Orgeron and the Tigers are feeling any major effects.

“The phones fly around and I am talking to all of them,” Orgeron told reporters. “We text these guys and call them every day. We have developed some great relationships, and we do believe that we are going to finish very strong and have a great recruiting class.”
It will be interesting to see how things continue to shake out ahead of next season.
