Spring practice is in the books, and we’re preparing to hunker down for the longest stretch of the offseason.
The post-spring transfer portal window is now closed, and though there are still some desirable uncommitted prospects in the portal, rosters have more or less become solidified. Depth charts are being shored up, and we’re starting to get a good idea of how teams are going to look in 2023.
LSU is likely one of several teams set to receive quite a bit of offseason hype after an overachieving Year 1 under coach [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag]. Entering the 2023 season, CBS Sports’ Dennis Dodd ranks the Tigers No. 8 in his post-spring college football power rankings.
If not Alabama, LSU is going to win the SEC West. If Jayden Daniels can stay healthy (meaning, not scramble as much), the Tigers could be better than Brian Kelly’s 10-win debut. LSU is seemingly always good on the defensive line. Watch WR Kyren Lacy, who caught four balls for 92 yards in the spring game, one a 70-yard touchdown. Way-too-early ranking: 8
The Tigers return their starting quarterback in [autotag]Jayden Daniels[/autotag] and top pass-catcher in [autotag]Malik Nabers[/autotag] — who finished second in the SEC in receiving yards in 2022. They also return four starters on the offensive line and added some ready-to-play options in the portal on defense.
This team has the potential to take another step forward this fall, and with a lot of questions surrounding Alabama, prepare for LSU to be a popular pick to defend its SEC West title this season.
