The LSU Tigers picked up another big commitment on Saturday when four-star safety Derrick Davis Jr. announced his pledge to the defending national champions.

Davis, who plays his high school football at Gateway High School in Monroeville, Pa., picked LSU over Ohio State and Penn State. Pittsburgh and Georgia were also finalists for Davis.

A big reason Davis picked the Tigers was his relationships with the coaching staff, especially safeties coach Bill Busch, Davis told Brian Dohn of 247Sports.

“He’s just a real great guy,” Davis said of Busch. “I just love the way he does things. His communication was great with me. That, and he is a cool guy. He is always calling just to check up on me. He was always calling my dad, always trying to call my mom just to see how she was doing.”

Davis is the No. 53 player in the 2021 class, according to 247Sports composite rankings. He is also the No. 2 safety and No. 4 player in Pennsylvania.

The Tigers now have the top two safeties in the 2021 class. Five-star Sage Ryan committed to LSU one week ago and is ranked as the No. 1 safety.

The Tigers now have the No. 3 recruiting class in 2021, with 22 commitments currently on board.
