With the 2021 college football season right around the corner, PFF’s preseason college football power rankings are already setting the tone, but since LSU could be a real championship contender this year, their ranking doesn’t match their ability.
PFF has the Tigers ranked No. 10 in the country behind a number of other SEC programs. Although their 2020 season could have the majority of the impact on that decision after going 5-5, the two teams are clearly unlike the other.
LSU returns the majority of their starters on both sides of the ball and has already shown signs of major improvement offensively and defensively. The annual summer game was a testament to how good this team could be, without showing too much of their 2021 hand early on.
Not only will most of the starters be returning, but the Tigers have also welcomed a strong freshman recruiting class ranking No. 3 in the nation, and the team also welcomes veteran transfers who will join the roster and become leaders.
The Tiger roster that will hit the field in the upcoming season is a complete and healthy lineup that is expected to go far in the SEC. However, the lower PFF ranking could be just the motivation coach Ed Orgeron’s football program needed in order to play with a vengeance starting week one.
