LSU Pitcher Matthew Beck named candidate for the 2021 Senior CLASS Award

Will Beck take home the honors?

LSU pitcher Matthew Beck has been named a candidate for the 2021 Senior CLASS award. Beck is one of 30 NCAA Baseball student-athletes selected as candidates for this honor.

The candidate must be an NCAA Division 1 senior student-athlete to be nominated for this award. They must also have notable achievements in four different areas: community, classroom, character and competition.

CLASS stands for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School. It celebrates every aspect of the student-athlete and encourages them to use the power of their voices and social media platforms to invoke change in their community.

Louisiana born and bred, the right-hander from Alexandria has recorded a 2.59 ERA in 80 career appearances as well as 119 strikeouts in 118 innings. Beck wears the significant LSU jersey No. 8, annually given to an upperclassman who embodies the spirit of LSU Baseball through unwavering leadership and dedication to the game.

When he’s not lighting it up on the pitching mound, he’s tearing it up in the classroom.

Beck has already earned his bachelor’s degree in finance from LSU and is currently enrolled in the master’s program for business administration.

He is a two-time member of the SEC Academic Roll and was voted to the 2020 SEC Community Service Team last May.

The candidates will be cut down to 10 finalists in May, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will then undergo a nationwide vote where media, coaches, and fans will have a say in who the most deserving CLASS candidate is.

The winner will be announced during the 2021 College World Series in June.
