LSU OC Jake Peetz elaborates upon philosophy at Coaches Caravan

Expect to see LSU’s offensive players utilized in multiple ways in 2021.

LSU offensive coordinator Jake Peetz bears a connection to former LSU passing game coordinator Joe Brady, and he’s bringing the same mentality with him to Baton Rouge.

Peetz wants to put the five best skill players on the field and made sure he met with each offensive player on the roster in his first few weeks in Baton Rouge to figure out the best way to use each guy.

Based on his comments at the Coaches Caravan, we can expect to see players used in multiple different places throughout the 2021 season.

“Talking to our staff, we have ya know X, Y, Z, F, 0 whatever you wanna call that person, just take that out. Everybody can be everywhere,” Peetz said at the event. “And then the personnel groupings we can move in and out of ’em, cause who’s our best five? It’s no different than in a basketball game: put your best five out there. Like we have five eligibles, let’s maximize them and let’s stress the defense.”

Creating confusion within the defense the way Peetz has it drawn up is something he describes the goal of simply.

“What we’re talking about is we wanna create a nightmare,” Peetz said.
“Their nightmare, our dream.”

With LSU going full spread with largely younger coaches making the calls this year, it will be interesting to see what will be done with Kayshon Boutte, Jaray Jenkins, Trey Palmer, Deion Smith, Jontre Kirklin, John Emery, Tyrion Davis-Price and Kole Taylor — all skill players making their return this season.
