LSU lost to Florida on Saturday, but the Tigers also took a loss on the recruiting trail.
Four-star offensive lineman Devin Harper flipped his commitment from LSU to Ole Miss. It wasn’t a surprise. Earlier in the week, a flurry of reports from the recruiting network On3 indicated a flip was imminent.
For LSU, it’s a significant loss. The interior offensive line is a position of need in this class. According to the On3 Industry Rankings, Harper is a top 100 overall prospect in the class. He’s a Louisiana native and you don’t often see LSU lose top 100 in-state recruits.
LSU, especially in recent years, does a good job landing blue-chip offensive linemen in Louisiana. It’s an area where offensive line coach Brad Davis has excelled.
Ole Miss has momentum on the recruiting trail right now. Lane Kiffin currently has his most talented roster at Ole Miss, largely thanks to his work in the portal. Now, we’re seeing Kiffin start to put it together at the high school level too.
LSU’s class still ranks top five nationally, but the Tigers have some battles down the stretch. Holding on to five-star QB Bryce Underwood and five-star CB DJ Pickett is paramount.
On the offensive line, LSU still has its top commitment in Carrius Curne along with Tyler Miller. Both will have a chance to compete for a starting spot next year.
