LSU football’s top recruit already practicing with Tigers

LSU’s top recruit is already practicing with the Tigers after signing earlier this month

LSU football’s top 2025 recruit is already on campus and practicing with the Tigers. Five-star cornerback DJ Pickett hit the field with LSU on Monday as seen in a social media post.

Top recruits suiting up for bowl practice isn’t rare. Tiger fans may remember Derek Stingley Jr. did a similar thing in 2018.

According to the On3 Industry Rankings, Pickett is the No. 10 overall recruit in the 2025 class and No. 2 at his position. On3 and Rivals both rank Pickett as the top corner in the country.

At his press conference on signing day, LSU head coach Brian Kelly said Pickett had the pedigree to make an immediate impact as a true freshman. Kelly highlighted Pickett’s size and said he’s as close to being a lockdown corner as you can get.

Kelly hired LSU secondary coach Corey Raymond to land players of Pickett’s caliber. LSU used to land five-star defensive backs year after year, but that trend tailed off in recent years.

LSU hopes the addition of Pickett signals a return to the DBU days.
