The game was played on Sunday, September 2, and was the first meeting between the Tigers and Hurricanes since 1988.

Miami went into the 2018 season ranked No. 8 after a 10-3 season in 2017. LSU entered the season ranked No. 25.

This marked the first game with Joe Burrow at quarterback for the Tigers. In the 33-17 win, Burrow passed for 140 yards on 11-of-24 attempts.

Though he didn’t throw for 300+ yards and multiple touchdowns, this game was only the beginning for Burrow in an LSU jersey.

Tigers running back Nick Brossette rushed for 125 yards and two scores on 22 carries to lift the LSU offense to the 16-point victory. Justin Jefferson led LSU in receiving with five catches for 81 yards.’

LSU led 10-3 after the first quarter, and outscored Miami 17-0 in the second quarter to take a commanding 27-3 halftime lead.

The Tigers scored six points in the third quarter to go up 33-3 going into the fourth quarter. The Hurricanes would score 14 points in the fourth to trim the lead to 33-17.

Miami outgained LSU in yards of offense 342-296.

But, the Tigers forced two Hurricanes turnovers and held the ball for 31 minutes and 49 seconds.

Following the victory, the Tigers would go on to finish the 2018 season with a 10-3 record and a win over UCF in the Fiesta Bowl.

Miami finished the 2018 season with a 7-6 record. They capped off their season with a rough showing in the Pinstripe Bowl, losing to the Wisconsin Badgers 35-3.
