According to CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz, LSU is set to host the top-ranked unsigned safety in the transfer portal.
Tamarcus Cooley will visit Baton Rouge within a few days. The redshirt freshman began his career at Maryland in 2023 before a breakout year with NC State in 2024.
Through two seasons, he totaled 43 tackles, six pass deflections, three interceptions, two forced fumbles, and one sack.
On3’s Industry Rankings slot Cooley as the No. 2 safety in the transfer portal. He was a three-star prospect in the 2023 class and fielded offers from Power Four schools, including Ole Miss, Oklahoma, and Tennessee.
LSU lost two starting safeties in Major Burns and Sage Ryan, so it’s in search of experienced pieces to bulk up its roster. Cooley turned in a standout 2024 season and would bring a well-rounded skillset to Baton Rouge. The Tigers have yet to secure a commitment from a transfer safety.
In LSU’s system, Cooley can play boundary safety or STAR. The six-foot-one, 185-pounder would be a versatile addition to the Tigers’ secondary.
