LSU Early Signing Day: Everything Tiger fans need to know

With several key recruitments coming down to the wire, here’s what LSU fans need to know on signing day.

National Signing Day is here. On Wednesday, top recruits around the country will put pen to paper and cement their commitments.

In Baton Rouge, LSU is hoping to get a top 10 class across the finish line. The month leading up to signing day was not fun for LSU. The Tigers lost several blue-chips, including the No. 1 overall prospect QB Bryce Underwood.

On Tuesday, five-star cornerback Kade Phillips flipped to Texas.

If LSU takes care of business on Wednesday, this is still a competitive class. The Tigers are expected to sign at least two five-stars if all goes well. Before the action unfolds, we’ll look at the key recruitments to watch on Wednesday.

Rivals continue to make a push for some of LSU’s top commits, but the Tigers have a chance to pull off a major flip too.

Signing day always brings a few surprises — which isn’t always a good thing.

Let’s jump right in and look at what LSU fans need to know on Wednesday.

All eyes on DJ Pickett

Pickett is the top recruit in LSU’s class. On3 and Rivals both rank Pickett as the No. 1 cornerback in the country and he’s a consensus five-star.

LSU secondary coach Corey Raymond began recruiting Pickett when he was at Florida and the two have a strong relationship.

With recruits of Pickett’s caliber, it’s not over until it’s over and the last few weeks have LSU fans tense. Crazier things have happened, but LSU will let out a sigh of relief when Pickett’s letter of intent arrives on Wednesday.

Can LSU flip a five-star offensive linemen?

Five-star OL and Florida State commit Solomon Thomas remains a candidate to join LSU’s class. LSU being on the right side of a flip would be a welcome sight for LSU fans after the last few weeks.

Thomas isn’t a lock to sign anywhere on Wednesday, but LSU OL coach Brad Davis is one of the best recruiters in the country and is looking to prove that again here.

Is Derek Meadows headed to Alabama?

As of Wednesday morning, four-star wide receiver remains committed to LSU but On3 and 247Sports are both reporting Meadows is likely to end up with the Crimson Tide.

This flip has been in the card for weeks and comes as no surprise to LSU.

If LSU were to somehow hold onto Meadows, it would be a major win for a class that needs receivers.

South Carolina vying to flip three-star TE.

Three-star tight end Mike Tyler committed to LSU in August, but the South Carolina native is still being pursued by the home-state Gamecocks. The On3 Prediction Machine gives LSU just a 1.5% chance of signing Tyler.

Jahkeem Stewart

According to On3, Jahkeem Stewart is the top-ranked recruit in the state of Louisiana. He remains uncommitted.

Stewart looks to be headed out of state with USC the expected destination.

But if LSU lands Stewart, it wouldn’t be the first time the Tigers pulled off an in-state shocker. With New Orleans recruiting ace Frank Wilson on staff, LSU can’t be ruled out here until Stewart makes it official on Wednesday.
