LSU DT Siaki Ika reportedly enters NCAA transfer portal

LSU defensive tackle Siaki Ika has entered the transfer portal after his role diminished under Bo Pelini’s new defensive scheme.

LSU defensive tackle Siaki Ika has entered the transfer portal, according to a report from 247Sports.

The former four-star recruit played in 13 games as the Tigers’ nose tackle in 2019. He totaled 17 tackles and 1.5 sacks last season. He was the No. 159 overall prospect in the country and ranked as the No. 11 defensive tackle.

The sophomore was expected to be the starting nose tackle in 2020, but his role diminished in Bo Pelini’s 4-3 defense this season.

With Glen Logan being back, coupled with Ali Gaye and Andre Anthony earning starting roles and extended playing time, the chance for Ika to earn a large role quickly faded.

For 2020, Ika has recorded three tackles and one sack through four games.

Last week against South Carolina, Ika had two tackles.

Ika was one of the top recruit in Ed Orgeron’s 2019 recruiting class, but didn’t earn the playing time he had hoped for this season.

The sophomore now has the chance to play anywhere in the country. His hometown Utah Utes could potentially be in the mix to land him as a transfer.

Utah begins their college football season on November 7 at home against Arizona.

Ika appeared in just two games for the Tigers this season. Against Vanderbilt, he recorded three tackles and one sack.

The 6’4″, 340-pound defensive lineman had hopes of being a top contributor on the Tigers’ defensive front this season.

But with other notable players earning time, Ika never saw the playing field as much as he would have liked.

He brings a strong work ethic and can garner the attention of opposing offensive lineman when inserted into the lineup.
