LSU sophomore defensive tackle Nelson Jenkins reportedly planned to opt out of the 2020 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
LSU head coach Ed Orgeron confirmed as much on Tuesday when he spoke to the media.
“That’s all I know,” Orgeron said regarding Jenkins opting out. “I haven’t had contact with Nelson in at least two weeks.”
On Wednesday, Jenkins took to his Twitter account and announced he’d be with the Tigers this season after all.
The return of Jenkins is obviously a relief for Orgeron and defensive coordinator Bo Pelini. With Tyler Shelvin still reportedly considering coming back, LSU could not afford to lose Jenkins.
The 6-foot-4, 300-pound redshirt sophomore has appeared in just one game at LSU, but that is expected to change in 2020 with Jenkins moving inside to defensive tackle.
