LSU defensive tackle Jay’Viar Suggs transfers after one year with Tigers

A talented LSU defensive tackle is entering the transfer portal after one year with LSU

Another LSU football defender hit the transfer portal on Wednesday. Jay’Viar Suggs opted to explore options elsewhere, according to a report from On3.

The transfer portal officially opened on Monday, and Suggs is the 13th Tiger to throw his name in.

Suggs spent one year at LSU after transferring from DII Grand Valley State. He wasn’t in a full-time role, but he rotated in, making his biggest impact as a pass rusher.

LSU lacked depth at defensive tackle entering 2024 and was forced to hit the transfer portal just to fill out the room. Suggs was one of those additions.

Depth is in a better spot now, but losing a potential contributor in 2025 hurts.

True freshman Ahmad Breaux and Dominick McKinley both displayed promise as true freshmen, and the Tigers will get veteran Jacobian Guillory back as he returns from an Achilles injury.

LSU will count on those three to anchor the defensive line in 2025.

Suggs is the second LSU defensive tackle to enter the transfer portal. Earlier this week, De’Myrion Johnson elected to transfer.
