LSU could lands in highly-touted OL’s top schools

The world of sports may be at a standstill due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but in the world of college football, the recruiting game never stops.

The defending champion LSU Tigers have been on a roll recently, picking up three commitments last week.

Could the Tigers be on the verge of landing another top target?

Owen Prentice, a 6-foot-3, 290-pound guard from O’Dea High School in Seattle, named his top three and LSU made the cut, per Brandon Huffman of 247Sports.

Joining LSU in Prentice’s top three were Washington and Stanford.

Prentice, ranked as the No. 115 overall player in the 2021 class and No. 8 guard per 247Sports’ in-house rankings, didn’t even pick up an LSU offer until May.

Prentice originally dropped a final six in April and LSU was not a part of that list.

He had plenty of good things to say about the defending national champions.

“They offered me during the pandemic,” Prentice said. “I was scheduled to visit in March but that got cut short.  It was scheduled for like a week after the lockdown got put in place.  They had been recruiting me throughout up to when they offered.”

“Coach (James) Cregg is the coach recruiting me and I think he’s awesome.  You can tell by the body of work and all the guys who got drafted that he is one of the best offensive line coaches in the country.”

Considering LSU didn’t offer until May and made Prentice’s final three, that speaks of not only the power LSU has on the recruiting trail right now but the work that Chegg is doing.

Prentice doesn’t have a date for his announcement, but it shouldn’t be too far off.

“I haven’t set a specific date, which I probably should, but I’m thinking of the middle to the end of summer, depending on how things go.”
