LSU head coach Ed Orgeron has a soft spot for former LSU quarterback Joe Burrow. After all, Burrow did have the greatest statistical season for a quarterback in college football history in 2019 and led the Tigers to a national title.
While the Tigers have struggled in 2020, Alabama and its quarterback, Mac Jones, are on a similar trajectory as LSU was just one year ago.
Jones is completing 78.5 percent of his passes for 2,196 yards with 16 touchdowns in six games and is a top contender for the 2020 Heisman Trophy.
On Monday, Orgeron spoke of Jones and was asked if he compared to Burrow, per Glenn Guilbeau of the Lafayette Daily Advertiser.
The guy is having a tremendous year. Somebody asked me to compare him to Joe Burrow, and he may be, I don’t know. Hopefully for him, he has a great career. I don’t know him as well as Joe. Joe brought a lot of intangibles to us. I’m sure the guy is doing the same thing. And I wish him the best, not the best against us, obviously.
While Jones is having a tremendous season and has a bright future ahead of him, Orgeron was clear no one compares to Burrow.
It will be interesting to see how Jones performs against this year’s LSU team when and if the two face each other in 2020.
