LSU quarterback Myles Brennan had the most difficult job in college football in 2020. All Brennan had to do was replace Heisman Trophy winner Joe Burrow under center one year after the best season in school history.
Before Brennan ever took a snap in 2020, he lost wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase, who chose to opt out of the college football season, citing the COVID-19 pandemic.
When the season finally did begin, Brennan played well. Sure, the Tigers were 1-2 in his first three starts, but the junior quarterback passed for over 1,100 yards and 11 touchdowns in those games.
Unfortunately, Brennan suffered a lower-body injury that would cost him the rest of the season.

Not much was said about Brennan’s recovery as the Tigers and head coach Ed Orgeron were in the middle of a coaching search for a new offensive and defensive coordinator.
That changed on Thursday when Orgeron joined Bobby Hebert and Kristian Garic of WWL and discussed Brennan’s recovery.
“Yeah, he looks full go right now,” Orgeron said.

Brennan appears to be on track to participate fully in spring practice.
We’re only going through walkthrough right now, but he’s in the weight room. He’s doing everything that the team does. He’s throwing with the team after when the coaches are not on the field. He looks like he’s full speed right now.
Brennan’s return is good news for an LSU offense that returns all five starters on the offensive line and has some fresh, new talent at wide receiver, including Kayshon Boutte.
After Brennan’s injury in 2020, LSU turned to true freshman TJ Finley. Finley had some good moments but struggled as the season wore on.

It led to fellow freshman Max Johnson taking over. The Tigers won their final two games with Johnson under center, including an upset at Florida without wide receiver Terrace Marshall and tight end Arik Gilbert — the team’s top receivers — after both opted out late in the season.
Will Orgeron and new offensive coordinator Jake Peetz give the starting job back to Brennan, or will the veteran passer have to battle Johnson and Finley?
LSU’s quarterback position will certainly be an interesting situation to monitor once spring practice begins.
