Conference media days in the middle of summer aren’t automatically newsworthy. A lot of what coaches say is bland and boilerplate coachspeak. Every word, every sentence, doesn’t merit commentary or note-keeping. Only when coaches say something truly newsworthy should everyone pay attention.
On Monday at SEC media days, LSU football coach Brian Kelly made actual news. He said something truly noteworthy which has implications for the future of not just college football, but all major sports.
You have likely seen or read stories about artificial intelligence writing movie scripts or sports stories. No one should be too surprised that artificial intelligence is being considered by football programs in the development of their operations on multiple fronts.
Brian Kelly was blunt in saying that LSU is going to embrace artificial intelligence, and that the Tigers should have multiple uses for the new piece of technology, as LSU Tigers Wire reports:
“In response to a question from AL.com’s Michael Casagrande, Kelly called AI’s potential in college football exciting and said it could have uses in recruiting and game-planning.
“He also said it’s something ‘we are about to venture into.’”
First super-interesting question and answer of SEC Media Days:
LSU's Brian Kelly says Artificial Intelligence is "exciting," has a lot of potential in aiding game-planning and recruiting profile-building. AI is "something we're about to venture into."

You can bet that we will have more to say about this story as the week continues, and as the college football season unfolds this fall.
