LSU coach Brian Kelly knows his defense has to improve greatly versus USC

LSU, like USC, had a terrible defense last season.

The LSU Tigers face the USC Trojans in Week 1 of the 2024 college football season. At SEC media days, Brian Kelly talked about the need for his defense to evolve after a terrible 2023 season. LSU Tigers Wire has more on this:

Brian Kelly knows his defense wasn’t up to par last year. It led to a change-up with the entire defensive staff with Kelly firing defensive coordinator Matt House and hiring Blake Baker. Along with Baker, LSU brought in Bo Davis and Corey Raymond. Two of the most heralded assistant coaches in the country.

“We know that defensively, we need to reach a higher level of play,” Kelly told the SEC Network on Monday morning.

“We played a lot of young guys on defense that we expect to take that next step this year,” Kelly said.

Harold Perkins Jr.Da’Shawn Womack, Ashton Stamps and Javien Toviano are a few of the key hinge-point players on the LSU defense this year. Follow LSU Tigers Wire for continuing coverage of the Bayou Bengals heading into the USC season opener.
