LSU CB Zy Alexander continues to put together All-SEC season

Is Zy Alexander the best CB in the SEC?

LSU is struggling, but that hasn’t stopped senior CB Zy Alexander from continuing his breakout year.

After another strong performance against Florida, Alexander is PFF’s fifth-best graded corner in the country. Alexander was targeted seven times in Gainesville, allowing just two catches for 16 yards and breaking up two passes.

Alexander transferred to LSU before the 2023 season after three years at FCS Southeastern Louisiana. He was inconsistent his first year in Baton Rouge with his season coming to an early end thanks to an injury.

Now a fifth-year senior, Alexander is one of the best corners in the SEC. He was in and out of the lineup early this year as he worked to get healthy and it was clear LSU’s defense was much better with Alexander on the field.

Taking transfers from the FCS level is a risk, but with Alexander, LSU got an experienced player. That’s something the secondary was and still is lacking.

Alexander has played eight games this year and only allowed a catch in four. His NFL passer rating when targeted leads the SEC by a significant margin and he only allows a catch every 22.2 coverage snaps, the second-best mark in the conference.

We’re seeing an All-SEC caliber season from Alexander. And with his size, he should end up on the NFL’s radar.

LSU’s defense has a lot to figure out, but Alexander is a bright spot
