LSU basketball could break its losing streak on Saturday

The Tigers have their most winnable contest in a long time as they host South Carolina on Saturday.

It’s been a rough few months for LSU basketball. The team has not won a game since the calendar flipped to 2023.

LSU opened conference play with a win over No. 9 Arkansas. That led some to think a quick rebuild was in store. It’s turned out to be anything but. After a 12-1 start, with that only loss coming by two points against a good Kansas State team, LSU has lost 13 in a row.

There’s good news, though. LSU is set to face the worst team in the SEC this week. The Tigers will host South Carolina at home in the PMAC.

The Gamecocks rank 232nd in KenPom, almost 100 spots below LSU’s ranking of 133rd. LSU should be a decent favorite in this game. If not now, when?

LSU likely won’t be favored in any other games this year. A win won’t change much in the grand scheme of things, but this is a team that really needs one.

McMahon can’t go 1-17 in conference play. There needs to be some positive momentum heading into the offseason. Maybe if they figure some stuff out and get a win Saturday, it leads to an upset down the stretch.

LSU has faced the toughest conference schedule in the SEC but is now in the midst of a more manageable phase. It began with Georgia, where the Tigers hung around but came up short. After South Carolina, LSU will get games against Vanderbilt and Ole Miss.

LSU has a chance here to finish the year on a high note and it starts with a win on Saturday.
