When the LSU Tigers officially take to the diamond under new baseball coach Jay Johnson, the expectations will be high. After signing the No. 1 recruiting class in the nation, the team is looking for a return to Omaha and the College World Series.
Last season the team finished 38-25 and were in the NCAA regional championship. They missed the College World Series, the Tigers haven’t appeared in the CWS since 2017. They haven’t won the national championship since 2009. Johnson and the Tigers are looking to change that this season. He comes over from Arizona as the new head coach, his old team appears as the No. 22 team in the country while LSU is No. 3.

It will be tough sledding in the SEC as they have to deal with Vanderbilt and last year’s national champions, Mississippi State in conference play. Six teams from the SEC appear in the top 25 and 10 teams in the top 50.
