The LSU Tigers currently have the No. 3 recruiting class in 2022, per 247Sports, with 11 commitments already on board.
On Monday, one of the top 2022 prospects in the nation announced his top six schools, and LSU made the cut.
Jacoby Mathews, a 6-foot-1, 204-pound safety from Ponchatoula High in Ponchatoula, Louisiana, also included Florida, USC, Arizona State, Texas and Clemson as his other finalists.
Matthews could be the latest high-profile safety to pick the Tigers, joining five-star Sage Ryan and four-star Derrick Davis Jr. in the 2021 class.

“I want to visit every school in my Top 6,” Mathews told Geaux247. “It’s mandatory I get there.”
A two-way standout in high school, Mathews will focus on the defensive side of the ball at the next level.
Mathews is the No. 2 player in Louisiana for 2022. The No. 1 player, quarterback Walker Howard, is already committed to the Tigers. The No. 3 player, offensive tackle Will Campbell, is also committed to LSU.
Mathews has no timeframe for a decision as he expects to visit each of his finalists before making a decision.
