Entering last season, expectations for [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] in Year 1 were minimal.
After an overachieving first campaign, it’s a different story as we prepare to enter Year 2 in 2023. This is a team with expectations and, for the first time since Kelly arrived, real pressure.
LSU has a loaded roster and returns a lot of key pieces. Now, this is a team that’s expected to take a leap.
College Sports Wire’s Patrick Conn took a look at 12 teams who enter this season with a target on their backs, and LSU was one of the teams that he mentioned will be under pressure to succeed in 2023.
Analysis:
When LSU hired Brian Kelly, most expected that would be better than it showed in 2021. I am not sure anyone thought they would win the SEC West and earn a spot in the SEC title game. No surprises this year, teams will be looking to wreck the Tigers season from the start.
Matchup To Watch:
Nov. 4 at Alabama
We’ll see if LSU has improved to the point where it can take down Georgia, and for the Tigers to get another shot at the Bulldogs, they will likely need to beat Alabama for the second year in a row. This time, that game will be played in Tuscaloosa.
The Tigers have the potential to compete for a playoff spot this fall, and they will certainly be under at least some pressure to take that step forward in Year 2.
