The Louisville Cardinals are coming off an historically bad 2022-23 season, the first of head coach Kenny Payne’s tenure. Now, the coach has the challenge of rebuilding the program from the ground up.
Payne is off to a solid start in the offseason, landing a commitment and a transfer within a day of each other.
First, the Cardinals earned a commitment out of the transfer portal from Skyy Clark, a former five-star guard that had interest from North Carolina before committing to Kentucky and landing at Illinois. Clark left the Illini program midseason and committed to Louisville hours after Illinois lost in the NCAA Tournament.
On Friday, the Cardinals landed five-star forward Trentyn Flowers, who then reclassified to the 2023 class. Flowers was also a UNC target before the Tar Heels backed off and focused on other recruits for the 2024 class.
NEWS: Top-20 junior Trentyn Flowers has committed to Louisville and will reclassify to 2023, he tells me.
“I chose Louisville because I knew from the first time I visited there that I wanted to be a Card.”

These two moves likely will not make Louisville a contender in the ACC next season, but it’s a good start for Payne. The Cardinals are expected to be even more active in the portal as they look to figure their rebuild out sooner than later.
