In his pre-draft media availability, former Arizona guard Bennedict Mathurin said the player he’s most excited to play against is Oklahoma City Thunder guard Lu Dort.
Since both are from Montreal, Canada, Mathurin said he has a prior relationship with Dort, who has helped mentor him. But when it comes time to face off in their first NBA game against each other, Mathurin said he is ready to show Dort he is more than capable against him.
“He calls me little bro, but I’m going to show him it’s me that’s big bro,” joked Mathurin.
The Thunder will likely not get a chance to draft Mathurin unless the team trades up from No. 12; he is projected to go in the top 10. Mathurin did not confirm or deny if he worked out with the Thunder.
Mathurin spent two seasons in college at Arizona, with which the 20-year-old averaged 17.7 points, 5.6 rebounds and 2.5 assists on 45% shooting in 37 games during his last season.
The 2022 NBA draft is scheduled for June 23.
