According to a Tuesday evening report from The Athletic’s Shams Charania, the Los Angeles Lakers have their sights set on [autotag]JJ Redick[/autotag] as their next head coach.
Charania emphasized that a decision has not been officially made internally, with New Orleans Pelicans associate head coach James Borrego also in the mix. However, the popular reporter said his sources think Redick remains the organization’s favorite choice.
“The Lakers still have steps remaining in their head-coaching search process, league sources said,” Charania reported. “But the indications are strong that Redick is their leading choice at this stage.”
Charania, later in the report, used the word “infatuated” to describe how the Lakers feel about Redick as a candidate.
Redick still holds Duke school records for career points, single-season scoring average, career 3-pointers made, and career free-throw percentage. He played in the NBA for 15 years before moving into an analyst role, becoming popular on ESPN and as a podcast host.
Redick, notably, launched a podcast with Lakers star LeBron James called ‘Mind the Game’ earlier this year.

Redick will work the NBA Finals, beginning on Thursday, as a color commentator. Any confirmation, should it arrive, will likely wait until the conclusion of the series.
