Dodgers at Giants: Projected starting pitchers

LHP Clayton Kershaw vs. RHP Kevin Gausman

Kershaw has registered a 3-1 record, 2.25 ERA, 0.79 WHIP and 29 strikeouts across 24 innings over his four starts.

  • Kershaw has won back-to-back outings, posting quality starts with just two earned runs, five hits and three walks allowed with 17 strikeouts over 14 innings.
  • However, Kershaw’s only loss this season was in a home assignment against the Giants on Aug. 8. He went a season-low 4 1/3 innings with four runs allowed, seven hits and three homers allowed in a loss.

Gausman enters with a 1-1 record, 4.65 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 42 strikeouts across 31 innings in five starts with one relief appearance.

  • This will be Gausman’s third appearance against L.A. this season, and his second start.
  • Gausman allowed one earned run and three hits with no walks and six strikeouts across a season-high 6 1/3 innings in a no-decision Aug. 9 against the Dodgers.

Prediction

Dodgers 4, Giants 2

Moneyline (ML)

The Dodgers (-238) are overwhelming favorites against the Giants (+210), but remember, Kershaw’s only loss came in his shortest outing of the season against San Francisco. While it is not expected to happen again, you can’t risk two and a half times your potential return. AVOID.

New to sports betting? A $10 bet on Los Angeles will net a $4.20 profit if it wins, while a winning $10 wager on San Francisco will return a profit of $21.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

The DODGERS (-1.5, -128) are still a little expensive on the run line, but it’s a much better bet. They have won eight of the past 11 meetings with their rivals, and they’re 5-1 in the past six trips to San Francisco.

In five of their past seven wins, the Dodgers won by at least two runs. So, on these ridiculously high moneylines, it’s best to mitigate your risk by thumping the run line instead.

Over/Under (O/U)

We saw a 10-8 victory by the Giants in Tuesday’s series opener, as both teams nearly took care of the Over (9) on their own. Expect a much different result with Kershaw on the hill in the first seven-inning game of the day. The Under is 3-1 in the past four for the Giants, and they have allowed just 3.0 runs per game during the span. UNDER 6.5 (-110) is the bet here.
