Looks like Lego Legend of Zelda won’t be happening anytime soon

Fans submitted Lego Zelda ideas aplenty for Lego’s Ideas program, but none of them will come to pass

Some fans hoping to get an official Lego Zelda set out of Lego’s Ideas program are likely in for a disappointment now. The toymaker had initially accepted Lego Zelda ideas after opening submissions, but Brick Fanatics reports that, after several Zelda suggestions received more than 10,000 fan votes, they had to start rejecting the ideas and issuing a new response (thanks, Video Games Chronicle).

Now, anyone who does try sending in a Zelda idea gets the statement that a licensing conflict prohibits Lego from accepting such submissions.

The rejection is hardly surprising, considering Lego already has an ongoing relationship with Nintendo, one that has produced Lego sets ranging from a castle inspired by Super Mario 64 that unfolds to reveal several of the 3D platformer’s iconic locations to an interactive Mario course with a giant Lego Mario. However, the notice also caused some to wonder if Lego may have an official Zelda collection in the works as well.

The series is certainly a natural fit for Lego, with its castles, mountainous Goron fortresses, and elaborate Zora kingdoms. However, despite Breath of the Wild outselling Super Mario Odyssey, Nintendo usually opts to feature its plumber mascot in major crossovers such as Lego and film, as with the upcoming Super Mario Bros. movie created in partnership with Illumination.
