LSU could very well be down another tight end from last season before the 2020 season even begins.
Senior tight end Jamal Pettigrew recently entered his name into the transfer portal in recent days, shown here on social media by 247Sports.

Pettigrew could still decide to remain in Baton Rouge, however, this situation appears to be more about playing time. Freshman Arik Gilbert appears to be the top player at tight end, replacing Thaddeus Moss — quite the void to fill.

On last season’s national championship team, Pettigrew played behind Moss and caught just one pass.
In three seasons with the Tigers, Pettigrew has caught two passes for 17 yards. A four-star recruit back in 2016, Pettigrew played in 13 games as a redshirt freshman in 2017, but missed all of 2018 with an injury.
He is considered a graduate transfer with immediate eligibility, should he ultimately decide to leave the program.
If Pettigrew leaves, the Tigers still have nine tight ends on the roster, including a pair of freshmen the team is high on in Gilbert and Kole Taylor.
It will be interesting to see how this shakes out as we continue to near the start of the college football season, and who steps up most at the position when the team returns to the field.
