Looking back at Jeff Sims’ Nebraska career

Nebraska quarterback Jeff Sims is expected to enter the transfer portal.

Nebraska quarterback Jeff Sims is expected to enter the transfer portal. It was back in December of 2022 that the Huskers secured the commitment of the former Georgia Tech quarterback.

Head coach Matt Rhule was ecstatic about the news, even going so far as to described Sims as an NFL talent.

He’s a triple threat. He can throw it. He can run it. And he can beat you with his mind as well. He can get to the right play. He’s an NFL player. I think he’s under the radar. Not being talked about a lot. Which is probably good, there’s not a ton of expectation on him. I know our entire team is going to go out and fight for him cause because they believe in him. He’s such a great leader. He’s such a great teammate.

Sims struggled in his only season in Lincoln, throwing for 282 yards and one touchdown with six interceptions. He also added 189 rushing yards on 42 carries with one touchdown. Sims would start the first two games of the season before losing the starting job due to turnovers. He would appear in only three games the rest of the season.

It’s clear with Nebraska’s aggression in the transfer portal that Sims time with the Cornhuskers had come to a close. For a player that entered the season with such hype, it’s a shame to see his tenure end with such a fizzle.
