The 2019 season has reached its final stretch. In less than two weeks, the Miami Dolphins will play their final football game of the season and will then begin the massive undertaking of overhauling this roster and looking to revamp the team in the offseason. The good news? The Dolphins are well positioned to do exactly that. The bad news? This Dolphins’ schedule looks mighty tough for 2020, too.
There’s a lot that will change between now and then and teams are almost never exactly what they’ve shown to be the prior season. But in looking ahead at the Dolphins’ 2020 scheduled opposition, the team is going to have their hands full heading West.
Here are each of the teams Miami is currently scheduled to play during the 2020 NFL season.
- New England Patriots (x2), currently 11-3
- Buffalo Bills (x2), currently 10-4
- New York Jets (x2), currently 5-9
- San Francisco 49ers, currently 11-3
- Seattle Seahawks, currently 11-3
- Los Angeles Rams, currently 8-6
- Arizona Cardinals, currently 4-9-1
- Kansas City Chiefs, currently 10-4
- Las Vegas Raiders, currently 6-8
- Denver Broncos, currently 5-9
- Los Angeles Raiders, currently 5-9
- Cincinnati Bengals, currently 1-13 (Last place in AFC North)
- Jacksonville Jaguars, currently 5-9 (Last place in AFC South)
We’ll get to find out pretty quickly how improved the Dolphins are with the 49ers, Seahawks, Patriots and Chiefs on Miami’s schedule — each of these teams will have a legitimate opportunity to play in the Super Bowl. Add in the rising Bills of Buffalo and a Los Angeles Rams team seeing to get over their 2019 Super Bowl hangover and half of Miami’s schedule is going to be quite a handful.
It will be a good challenge. Miami isn’t going to turn into a Super Bowl contender overnight, there’s too much to fix. But if Miami can overhaul the roster and come into 2020 with all the right faces in place, then this caliber schedule can help forge these Dolphins into the best position to be successful by providing them with valuable experience against some of the league’s elites.
