The Big House is working to modernize with the times.
In 2011, at the tail end of renovations at Michigan Stadium that saw the construction of the two towers on the east and west sides, the scoreboards also underwent a facelift. Suddenly, the Wolverines had high-definition video boards that also prominently featured in-game stats in each end zone.
But, today, that is not good enough.
This offseason, Michigan football is upgrading the scoreboards. The new video boards are wider, requiring two additional support pillars than the ones installed in 2011. The Michigan Insider’s Alejando Zúñiga appeared to meander past the stadium on Monday and captured a visual update on where the renovations stand.

This appears to be the view looking south from the north end zone. The bulk of the front side of the video boards appear to be installed while the Block M emblazoned outer shell is being installed. Unlike when Michigan went from the strike-through M on the old scoreboards to the modern Block M, it doesn’t appear there are massive changes to the look or style of the new scoreboards.
Fans will get their first chance to see the new scoreboards in action on Sept. 2 at noon EDT when Michigan football hosts East Carolina for the 2023 season opener.
