On Saturday, Penn State and Rutgers will put their rivalry aside to join together in honoring the victims of this week’s tragedy on the campus of the University of Virginia. Players on both teams will wear a helmet decal in honor of the lives lost within the Virginia football program after this week’s shooting in Charlottesville.
Penn State and Rutgers will wear a circular decal with the uniform numbers of Virginia football players D’Sean Perry, Lavel Davis Jr., and Devn Chandler. All three were killed in a shooting this week by a former Virginia football player.
Penn State and Rutgers are obviously not a part of the ACC, so there is no conference togetherness shared by the Nittany Lions and Scarlet Knights with the Cavaliers, but this is still a nice gesture by two schools who are still closely knit by geogrpahy, to a certain degree.
The gesture by Penn State and Rutgers is similar to the one being conducted by other schools, especially within the state of Virginia. Virginia Tech nd Liberty opted to wear orange and blue jerseys to pay tribute to the University of Virginia for their game today.

Virginia canceled its football game today against Coastal Carolina. It remains to be seen if the program will play next week against in-state rival Virginia Tech in the final game of the regular season.
